dont-want-to-read

First things first, there are going to be books/series mentioned that I know a lot of people love. Obviously, my opinions are going to be quite unpopular and different but I am allowed to have different opinions just as you are. If one of your favourites is mentioned there is no need to be rude about it; we all have to accept that not every person in the world will like every single book that we like.

That all being said, here are a few books/series that I haven’t read, and don’t plan on picking up anytime soon.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

I think maybe if I read this series when I was 13/14 I probably would have loved it, but now that I’m 21 years old I just have no interest in it whatsoever.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

I had this trilogy on my shelves for a while and last night I finally got the courage to unhaul some more books. I have really just lost interest in reading it, and I’ve also heard that the writing is quite young, and I find that I really don’t enjoy young writing (I’m not sure if that makes sense but anyway) anymore. So I unhauled it….

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Now, I know *gasp*. I have been told many times to read this series, and I know most of Young Adult readers absolutely love this series, but I honestly just cannot be bothered anymore. I have found that I can’t commit to series that are longer than four books, especially when the books are 500+ pages. I don’t think I’d really enjoy the series as much as everyone else does, and I honestly cannot be bothered putting up with the fandom and the drama that unfolds in it almost daily. I’d just rather read something less problematic, sorry (not sorry).

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Half of my reason for not wanting to read this is because The Bronze Horseman (review can be found here) really put me off reading Historical Fiction, but the other reason is because I’ve heard that there is an abuse relationship/s in it and I can’t deal with that again after The Bronze Horseman. Also, the book is like 1000 pages long and I just don’t have time for that (and don’t really want to waste time on it, either).

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Another book that had been on my shelves for a while and I decided it was time to unhaul. I heard such good things when it first came out, but since then there’s been a lot of mixed reviews and I’m not really interested in it anymore.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

Again, another book I recently unhauled. I’ve heard mixed reviews about this series as well, but I probably would have kept it if I hadn’t read Paige’s latest release, Stealing Snow (full review to come). Unfortunately, I really didn’t like it, and I’m not really interested in reading Dorothy Must Die anymore.

Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

I feel bad for saying this one since a friend of mine surprised me with a copy of the first book for my birthday. I’ve never really been interested in reading this series, or any of the spin-offs. I really enjoy Greek mythology, but there are so many Percy Jackson books and I’m just really not interested in reading Middle-Grade books anymore.

So that’s some of the books that I no longer want to read/never really wanted to read, though I’m sure I could have thought of a few more…
Let me know what popular books you have no interest in reading!

Until next time, danielle

  1. Interesting post. I did read Twilight when I was 14. I wouldn’t read it again though. Also I just finished Throne of Glass and it wasn’t great IMO-so you aren’t missing out there.
I have no interest in reading the Hunger Games or Maze Runner-I am a little over the dystopian thing-to be honest. So I guess we could include the 5th wave in there too! 😄

    1. Dystopian is definitely a genre that I barely reach for now, so I understand! And about Throne of Glass, I’m glad you thought so! I don’t think I’ll really love it anyway 🙂

      1. I read ACOTAR and ACOMAF and didn’t really enjoy them as much as everyone else, so that’s another reason why I’m not really interested in it anymore.

  3. This is a very interesting post. I read twilight when I was 12 or 13 I guess and I enjoyed it, but the last book was quite boring. When it comes to Outlander, I started reading it a while ago and decided to put it down for a while because I was getting so annoyed and frustrated. The book started off pretty well but omg, after the main character’s relationship developed into something abusive I could not read anymore. I will try to finish though because I want to see how this whole thing is going to end lmao. Oh and I absolutely love Percy Jackson and think I forever will, I am actually planning on re-reading it, it is such a sweet series and brings back great memories. My friend gave me a copy of The Red Queen for my birthday so, even though I wasn’t really planning to read it, I’ll give it a chance now. For some reason I really enjoyed this post, it was super cool haha. Xo

    1. Thank you! I wasn’t really into reading when I was younger which is why I never read Twilight or Percy Jackson. I’m glad someone else thought the same about Outlander! I really don’t like when abusive relationships are romanticised, but good luck with the rest of the book!

  4. I read Twilight when I was about 12 or 13 and I loved it then but now, I don’t know that I’d have too many negative things to say about it but I wouldn’t be reaching for it again. I read The Maze Runner series a while ago and I liked the first books but the others just completely lost me. As for Throne of Glass, I’m actually reading it right now and it’s one of those books that’s making me nervous because of all the hype and I don’t want to be one of the only people not to enjoy it.

    1. I feel the same about books that I read a few years ago! Like I enjoyed them but don’t think I’d ever re-read them. Yeah I’ve heard a few people say that about The Maze Runner as well, so I’m not bothered that I unhauled it! Don’t pressure yourself into reading something if you aren’t enjoying it! And don’t expect to love every popular book either, haha. I have read a lot of popular books that I didn’t really enjoy, but hopefully people are nice enough that you don’t have to worry about them!

  5. Most of these don’t really appeal to me either, TBH. I read Red Queen and thought it was okay, but had some fairly glaring logic problems and didn’t really offer anything new.
