I’ve wanted to do a post like this for a while now, but I’ve always struggled to find books that are similar enough to compare to one another. I’ve managed to find five books/series that I believe are somewhat similar to more popular and hyped books, that if you enjoyed I think you would enjoy the other book (if that makes sense?). Basically, I chose five books that most people like or love and found lesser-known books that are similar to those popular books. So if you like this one, you should read that one, and so on and so forth.

So here are five books/series that if you enjoyed, I think you would enjoy the other five!

 

Like Twilight by Stephanie Meyer, read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead:

Really the only similarity between the two is that they’re both about vampires, but Vampire Academy is so underrated compared to Twilight. Vampire Academy has a super kick-ass main character, a wonderful female friendship, a steamy romance, and such an awesome and unique vampire system/world and I just love it to bits. Even if you didn’t necessarily enjoy Twilight, I definitely think you should give Vampire Academy a try!

Like Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, read The Study Series by Maria V. Snyder:

I haven’t read Throne of Glass and I’m still unsure if I ever will, but from what I know about it I would say that The Study Series is very similar. (SJM apparently said that Throne of Glass was inspired by this series, so there you go) The first book in the series, Poison Study, follows a girl who has been put on death row for murder (sound familiar???). This high-fantasy world is fun and action-packed, with lovable and interesting characters and excitement around every corner. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did and I think if you love high-fantasy/magic/action, then you should definitely read The Study Series.

Like A Court of Thorns and Roses/A Court of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas, read The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon:

The Bone Season is a recent favourite of mine, and I think that if you loved ACOTAR/ACOMAF then you’ll really enjoy this series. Warden reminded me quite a bit of Rhys, just not as sassy, and we also get the ‘living with the enemy’ trope in The Bone Season as well. Paige has to live with Warden, and she isn’t sure if she should trust him or not. In ACOTAR, Feyre has to live with Tamlin; so you can see a couple of resemblances between the two series. A part from those, they are very different to each other, but I still believe that you’ll love The Bone Season!

Like Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin, read Black by Fleur Ferris:

Mara Dyer is one of my favourite series. I love the creepy, mysterious aspect to it, and when I read Black not too long ago, I found it to be just as creepy and mysterious. This book has so many twists and turns, and it really keeps you on your toes just as Mara Dyer does. If you love a good mystery/creepy YA, then I would definitely recommend Black! (Also the perfect book for Halloween!)

Like The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, read Nevernight by Jay Kristoff:

I know a lot of people love the Darkling and I will admit, he’s a pretty awesome villain. If you love the Darkling’s powers, then I think you’ll enjoy Mia Covere’s ability to control shadows just as much. Mia is quite similar to the Darkling; she’s determined, cunning, and super interesting and fun to follow along with. The plots of the stories couldn’t really be any different, but I would definitely check out Nevernight for an amazingly brilliant fantasy that I absolutely love!
