books i still need to read

still-need-to-read

Do you ever look at your bookshelves and think ‘damn, I’ve had these books for a while and somehow still haven’t read them’? I admit I do this way too often, especially because there are quite a lot of books I, for some reason, still haven’t picked up. So, today I wanted to share ten books/book series that I haven’t yet read, but really want to/need to.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone – Laini Taylor

This is a series I’ve been meaning to read for a few years now. I’ve heard so many great things about it and practically everyone loves it, so I think it’s about time I got around to reading it. I also literally know nothing about this series, but I’m super excited to jump in with no expectations or knowledge!

On The Jellicoe Road – Melina Marchetta

This book has been on my TBR for years, like literally such a long time. I remember when I was about 16, I found a quote from this book on Tumblr and have been wanting to read it ever since (I know, it’s been likeย 5 years since and I still haven’t read it okay, I am ashamed).

A Darker Shade of Magic – V.E Schwab

I know, I know, I still haven’t read this series. What’s worse is I still haven’t read anything by V.E Schwab yet…. But, with the release of the last book in the series, A Conjuring of Light, I figured it was about damn time I got around to reading it! I’ll probably pick it up in the next couple of months, and I can’t wait to see what all the hype is about!

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

Another book I’m pretty ashamed to say I haven’t read. I was supposed to read this a couple of years ago, but I kept pushing it back and finding other books I was more interested in. I’m really hoping to read it soon, though, so fingers crossed I love it just as much as everyone else!

Shatter Me – Tahera Mafi

Okay, I know, there’s a lot of books in here that I’m sure everyone’s read and I’m just really, really late to the party on. This obviously being one of them. I’ve heard so many good things, but also a few not so good things as well. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to it but hopefully, it’ll sometime in the near future!

The Lunar Chronicles – Marissa Meyer

Again, another series practically everybody’s read apart from me. I’ve heard so many good things about this series and each book sounds amazing, so I really hope I can get around to reading them very soon!

Ready Player One – Ernest Cline

This book just sounds super unique and fun and entertaining, and again, I feel like everyone’s read it except me. Another book I’m not sure when I’ll get to, but I hope it’ll be read in the near future.

Slammed – Colleen Hoover

This is probably a surprising one, seeing as I’m sure you all know by now how much I love Colleen Hoover’s novels. This series is the only CoHo I’m yet to read (apart from her Never Never books with Tarryn Fisher which I’ll probably never [ha, so punny] get around to reading), and I’ve heard it’s amazing so I cannot wait to pick it up!

I’ll Give You The Sun – Jandy Nelson

I’ve kind of put off reading this book since it’s so hyped up. I’ve been worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype for me, since Jandy Nelson’s other book, The Sky Is Everywhere, was a little bit of a disappointment for me. Let’s hope I enjoy this one more, though!

Carry On – Rainbow Rowell

The last book I still need to read is another really popular book. I absolutely loved Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, though found Eleanor and Park kinda meh… I feel like I can’t go wrong with this book, since it’s basically like Harry Potter and it’s the story the main character in Fangirl wrote. I’m really hoping to read this one soon!

That’s really just a few of the books I am yet to readย because let’s be real I need to read a lot of books…..
But anyway, let me know what books you still need to read! And if you’ve read any of the books I listed, let me know your thoughts!

Until next time,ย danielle

  1. I agree with this on so many levels. There are so many books on my bookshelf I still haven’t read yet it’s so lovely to have so many choices towards what to read next right in front of me โ˜บ๏ธ Ahh happy reading!

  2. Apart from On the jellicoe road (which I haven’t read) and Slammed, I love all of the books on your list. I can definitely see how the hype makes them intimidating, so fingers crossed you won’t be disappointed!

  3. Ooh, I enjoyed Ready Player One but more-so towards the end. Found it was a little info-dumpy but it was still quite good! I bet it’s going to make an AMAZING movie, it’s such a visual book!! And… *hides in shame* …I haven’t read ADSOM or The Book Thief either… whoops.

  4. No worries, I haven’t read anything by VE Schwab as well. I’m hoping to read A Darker Shade of Magic soon since I already have it on my shelf. I love the Lunar Chronicles Series! I hope you enjoy it as well ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Ahhhh Daughter of Smoke & Bone, ADSOM & The Book Thief are books I’ve been meaning to read for AAAAAGES as well xD I’ve only read Vicious by V.E.Schwab & it was a 5 star read, so I have high expectations for her other books! ๐Ÿ™‚ Also – Shatter Me is beautifully written but I feel like it’s way too overhyped D:

      1. Hahaha I thought *I* was the only one! Shatter Me is really beautifully written & it’s definitely still worth reading. It’s just not as good as I thought it was gonna be, what with all the hype ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. We share a lot of the same books on our list – all the books mentioned I’ve either read (and loved) or I really need to get to myself.

DOSAB, Shatter Me, The Lunar Chronicles (save Winter, I haven’t read that one yet), Slammed & The Book Thief are all fantastic ๐Ÿ˜‰ That said, lower your expectations if you can (which is probably hard because the hype around them is ginormous) as while they’re fantastic, they might not be as brilliant as the hype (as it tends to go)

Out of the rest of them, I think V. E. Schwab’s books are the highest priority in terms of my TBR, though I also really want to get to I’ll Give You The Sun (Event though The Sky is Everywhere is still one of my most hated books, and one of my first DNFs)

    Great post ๐Ÿ˜‰
