Hello, friends. Today I wanted to do a little Q&A since I feel like you don’t really know me all that well. It is also my 22nd birthday tomorrow, and what better way to celebrate than to delve into my deepest, darkest secrets, right? I’m totally kidding, but I did get my lovely followers on Instagram to ask me a bunch of questions and now it is time to answer them!
So, let’s get started!
Recommend a book you haven’t recommended before?
I’m just going to recommend some underrated books that I don’t talk about too often, so get ready……
- Angelfall by Susan Ee
- Everything Leads To You by Nina Lacour
- Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
- Far From You by Tess Sharpe
- Summer Skin by Kirsty Eagar
What unique things have you experienced during this life?
Gosh, I don’t even know how to answer this….. I guess it’s kind of unique that a lot of my close friends I’ve met online? I’ve also been able to do some pretty cool (don’t know if they’re really unique but anyway) things through my blog and bookstagram, as well as travelling to different countries and seeing different cultures and people.
What do love most about bookstagram?
This is a difficult one because at the moment Instagram is really letting me down (FIX THE DAMN ALGORITHM ALREADY), but I’d have to say the thing I love most is how passionate about books everyone is, and I’ve also met some amazing people and made so many friends and I love that.
Tips for starting a bookstagram account?
I actually have a blog post all about bookstagramming, so click here if you want to see some of my tips and tricks!
If you could pick a talent that you could instantly master, what would it be?
Probably speed reading. Like, my TBR would be non-existent if I could read 1-2 books a day!
What do you do while reading?
I….. Read? Seriously though, I will sometimes make some tea and snack on some chocolate, curl up in bed or on my couch with a nice fluffy blanket, but that’s usually all.
Who is your favourite fictional character?
BUT I HAVE MANY!!!!!!!!! Like, I have favourites for different reasons, why you gotta make me choose just one? Okay, here’s just a few of my favourites…
- Lila Bard
- Adelina Amouteru
- Will Herondale
- Tessa Gray
- Jem Carstairs
- Cath (from Fangirl)
- Paige Mahoney
How did you become a reader?
I’ve always enjoyed reading, but never really got into it as a real hobby until I was about 16, when my friend let me borrow her Mortal Instruments books and I fell in love and thus, the book buying began and the TBR grew and grew and now it’s out of control *laughs nervously*.
What’s your all time favourite book (or series)?
I HATE THIS QUESTION WHYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!???!!!? If I had to choose just one, it’d be The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare (no surprises there, really).
How do you get inspiration for your Instagram pictures?
I mostly get it from similar bookstagram accounts to me, as well as scrolling through Pinterest. Sometimes I will just randomly think of ideas for photos as well. (Make sure to credit people if you get inspiration from them!)
What’s your favourite summery book?
A recent favourite would have to be When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon, which you can read my full review here.
Where is your favourite place to buy bookish mugs?
I don’t buy bookish mugs very often (or at all really), but I would just check out society6 or redbubble for some pretty ones.
What is a skill you have that you’re most proud of?
Gosh, I don’t really know… I’m good at writing, I guess? Make-up? (WHAT ARE SKILLS AND WHERE DO I FIND THEM)
Is there a book you wish would be turned into a film?
Not really, mostly because I don’t trust anyone to do my favourite books justice on film. *glares at Vampire Academy film*
Suggestions for books that are about travel?
I don’t think I’ve actually read many travel books, honestly. Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid (which I read years ago and can barely remember) has a roadtrip, the Shades of Magic series has travel in it also *wink wink nudge nudge*, but I can’t for the life of me think of any others that I’ve enjoyed.
How did your bookstagram theme come about?
A lot of trial and error, honestly. I started bookstagramming a few years ago and never had a theme for probably a good year or so, but then I decided to change it up and I slowly made my theme more minimalist and then it kind of stuck. It was also a change from a lot of other accounts I was following, bc most had heaps of props and colour and I didn’t really want that. Of course, there are heaps of minimalist bookstagram accounts now, and a lot of amazing ones, too.
Do you like to write in books or use sticky notes?
I actually don’t do either. I have annotated a book (it was a book that I hated and am passing around to friends to read and hate and annotate also hehe), but I don’t ever feel the need to write in books or use sticky notes.
Do you outline your books or just wing it?
I do a bit of both, actually. I’ll try to outline some of my stories, but then I’ll usually get too excited about it and just start the story without knowing exactly where it’s going to go. Hashtag no self-control.
What are your favourite/most inspirational bookstagram accounts?
I have so many it’s super hard to choose! Just to name a few that I really love and get most of my inspiration from, though….
What genres do you own the most/least of?
I own very few historical fiction novels and very rarely venture into that genre. My most owned genre is probably either fantasy or contemporary.
What is your favourite new YA series?
I was going to say the Shades of Magic series, but that’s not actually YA, so I’ll go with The Dark Artifices or The Young Elites.
Do you listen to music while reading?
No, because it distracts me. I could possibly listen to instrumental music whilst reading, but if there are lyrics I will just end up singing along.
Where in the world do you want to go because of a book (a real place)?
I really struggled with this one, because I couldn’t think of anywhere IRL a book made me want to visit. Then I remembered Seven Dials. I want to visit the Seven Dials in London, because of The Bone Season (duh).
Which sci-fi/fantasy location do you wish existed so you could visit?
I feel like the go-to answer here is Hogwarts, but I’d also love to visit Red London from the Shades of Magic series.
All-time favourite songs?
I cannot for the life of me think of any all-time favourites like I have a few (hundred) songs I love to listen to every now and then, but all-time favourites???? Instead, I’ll just say my current favourites which are Praying by Kesha, and East by Vallis Alps.
How do you edit your bookstagram pictures?
I actually get asked this question a lot, especially recently. I use the VSCO app, and I use the filter hb2. Then I change the exposure, temperature, contrast, shadows, and all that good stuff.
Do you think you’ll ever stop blogging/bookstagramming one day? Why/why not?
Probably one day, if I’m being realistic. I don’t think I’ll be blogging or bookstagramming for the rest of my life. But I don’t see myself stopping either any time soon!
Who are your favourite bloggers?
- Sarah from Written Words World
- Bec from Bec’s Books
- Aentee from Read at Midnight
- Emily from Loony Literate
- Jananee from Head in her Books
(Just to name a few)
They are all the questions! I hope you learned a little about me, and that this was actually an enjoyable post to read *laughs nervously*. Let me know if you agree or have similar answers to anything I answered!
Until next time,
