the reading quest tbr

reading quest

Hey, friends! It is time to challenge myself and finally participate in a readathon! I don’t know why I’ve never done one. Maybe because I usually suck at reading under pressure and am too busy to commit, but not this time! I will be participating in The Reading Quest, which is a video game/bingo type readathon where you read books to gain XP and choose a character and IT IS AWESOME! My lovely friend Aentee @ Read At Midnight is the host for this super awesome readathon, and if you want to join as well check out her sign up post here!

So, the readathon runs from the 13th of August to the 10th of September, and I’m going to be following the Mage path. (How freaking cute is the little character designs made by CW @ Read Think Ponder !!!!!)

These are the books I will (hopefully) read along the Mage path during the readathon!

A book with a one-word title

At this point in time, I’m planning to read Easy by Tammara Webber. I haven’t read enough New Adult this year (actually I haven’t read any) and I am in need of some trashy, steamy romance.

A book that contains magic

For this, I’m hoping to read Our Dark Duet by V.E Schwab. No, I haven’t read This Savage Song yet, but I will be reading it for another prompt in this readathon okay?

A book based on mythology

For this, I think I’ll be reading The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi. This may change depending on my mood at the time, but I am still very excited to pick this one up as I’ve heard wonderful things about it.

A book set in a different world

I’m hoping to pick up Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody for this one. I was sent this book for review so I need to read it soon anyway, so why not add it to my readathon? I hope I love this one as it sounds like an amazing read.

First book in a series

Well, what do you know? A prompt that works perfectly for me to read This Savage Song by V.E Schwab. Am I ready to get my heart destroyed again by Schwab? No. Yes. I don’t know but I’m reading it anyway.

So, as well as the character path, you can also do side challenges to gain extra points and help you win all the goodies (did I mention there is a prize you can win? Because THERE IS A PRIZE YOU CAN WIN!). I don’t know if I’ll even complete the Mage path, but I will try to also read the following books to get all the points!

Potions – a book by two or more authors

I was going to finish reading the #LoveOzYA anthology but I feel like that may be cheating so instead I’ll read Shiny Broken Pieces by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton.

Time Warp – a book set in the past or future

I think I want to try and FINALLY read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak for this one. Surely I’m ready for the pain and the emotions of this book. SURELY.

Expansion – read a companion novel or short story

I think I’ll try to squeeze in Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell. This one is so small I often forget I even own it.

Mini Game – read a graphic novel, poetry collection or novella

For this, I’ll try and read Memories by Lang Leav. I’ve been meaning to read their poetry for years so I think it’s finally time I dive into some.

Animal Companion – book referencing an animal in the title

I was going to try and be sneaky and read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness because I have no books with an animal in the title that I haven’t already read, but I don’t think it’ll work…. *sigh* So I may be borrowing We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson from a friend to read instead!

Respawn – read a book you previously DNFed

I never DNF books so I can’t even try to snatch points from this one *sighs again*

Grind – read a book with 500+ pages

For this, I’ll try to read Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book so I need to get to reading it asap.

Multiplayer – buddy read a book

I haven’t filled this spot yet because a) I haven’t organised anything and b) I suck at buddy reads, but maybe I’ll figure something out a bit closer to or during the quest!

Open World – read any book of your choice

I think this one will ultimately depend on my mood so I have nothing set in stone just yet!

But that’s my rough TBR for The Reading Quest! To see the board and rules and to answer any questions you may have, don’t forget to read Aentee’s sign up post!

Are you participating in this epic readathon?

Until next time, danielle
