Guess who hasn’t been writing even though she told herself at the end of June that July would be a “writing month”???
This girl right here.
I don’t even know why I’m attempting to do an update when there’s really not a lot to update you on, let’s be honest. When I last posted an update on my writing (in February), I’d written 23k words and wanted to hit 40-50k by the end of February… Look, I didn’t even get close to 40k, and even now, six months later, I have not reached 40k. What can I say other than I’ve just been extremely unmotivated? I also just can’t seem to find the time? Like it’s not even that I’m really busy all the time, it’s more that I just struggle to balance my hobbies in my spare time. Like today, I have the day off work, so you’d think it would be the perfect opportunity to write, right? (hehe that sounded funny just typing it) Nope, instead, I need to take photos for my Instagram, do blogging, cleaning, run errands, do some reading; and where am I going to fit writing into all of this? I just don’t know how people do it, but I definitely need to start organising my time better to fit in writing.
So, maybe if I write down my plans and share them with you I’ll actually be held somewhat accountable if I fail to accomplish them? Sounds like a good idea to me, if it actually works.
Okay, I set a goal at the beginning of the year to finish this draft by the end of the year. That really shouldn’t be a difficult task, right? Well I’m sticking to it, and so from August to December I’m going to make more of an effort to work on this story. Even if it’s once a week, or every second day, as long as I’m getting words down then I’ll be happy. My WIP is currently at 25.6k words, and there’s still a tonne more to the story so I definitely need to get back into it and get this written.
I know I probably make it sound like I’m not enjoying the story or writing, but it’s not that at all. Once I actually sit down and start writing and the words start flowing, I love it. It’s just finding the time and motivation to actually sit down and write that I struggle with.
SO, my goal, at least for August, is going to be to write at least once a week. I was going to set a word count goal, but I suck at sticking to them so I think this one will be a lot more manageable. Ideally, I’d be really happy if I ended up with an extra 10k words, but we aren’t going to be too picky or unreasonable here, alright? Set low goals so you can achieve them easier, that’s my life motto.
But enough blabbing, because I’m sure what you are all really here for is to read a sneaky lil excerpt, right? Of course you are, so here you go.
A large book came hurling towards her head, then, the impact snapping her out of her thoughts and away from her plan. At least for the moment.
“Ow.” Amaya groaned, rubbing the side of her head where the book had connected. She grabbed the book from the dusty ground, ready to throw it right back at the assailant. Only she knew the assailant was sitting across from her. Queen Ellora stared Amaya down, though it was impossible to miss the glint in her eyes; she had enjoyed that.
So there you have it, another post where I say I’m going to get back into writing that I probably won’t stick to, but let’s not knock me down before I’ve even tried, right?
Let me know how your writing is going (if you have any), and please throw some motivation my way because I need it desperately!
Until next time,
YOU CAN DO IT DANIELLE. WE BELIEVE IN YOU.
