top three reads of 2018 so far

Can you believe we’re already in August? I mean, what the actual f*ck???? Where the hell has this year gone? AND WHAT HAVE I EVEN DONE THIS YEAR?????? Ha ha ha *cue existential crisis*

Anyway, today I thought I’d talk about some books that I absolutely love. More specifically, books that I read so far in 2018 and absolutely loved. Now, you might be wondering why I picked only three to talk about. Three is a fairly small number and surely you’ve read more than that, right? Well, friends, I have had a pretty good reading year so far in terms of the number of books I’ve consumed, but not such a good year when it comes to the quality of the books. In saying that, I haven’t read any god-awful books, but I also haven’t read many amazing books that have completely stolen my heart, which is pretty disappointing. I don’t know, maybe I’ve become a tougher critic when it comes to books?

But yes, I’ve read 42 books so far this year and I’ve only given out five-star ratings to four books. FOUR!!!! And one of them I honestly could’ve given 4 stars to instead but I love the series and the characters so much that I couldn’t help but give it a higher rating.

So anyway, let’s talk about the three books that I read in the first half of 2018 and absolutely adored, shall we?

Obsidio – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

It’s really no surprise that this book is in my favourites. I mean, I’m not surprised at least. I knew before I even picked this book up that I would love it, mostly because it’s the last book in one of my favourite series by my favourite author duo. Amie and Jay are literal evil geniuses and this book was everything I wanted and more. I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us in their next series together!

A Thousand Perfect Notes – C.G Drews

I can tell you now, I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. And I’m still not sure why I loved it when all it did was cause me PAIN AND ALL THE FEELS OH MY GOD MY HEART!!!! But anyway, this book was actually amazing and so heartbreaking and wonderful and the characters were so precious and I just loved every second of it.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – Taylor Jenkins Reid

And last, but definitely not least, man, this book. I was so sceptical about this book when I’d first heard about it. Like I was intrigued, but it just didn’t seem like my kind of book, so I didn’t pay much more attention to it. But then literally EVERYONE was reading it and LOVING it, and my intrigue peaked and I just had to see what the fuss was all about. Let me tell you, this book is so damn deserving of all the hype. Oh my f*cking god, this book was absolutely amazing. It was everything. I was completely and utterly obsessed with Evelyn Hugo and her life, and I just couldn’t get enough. I literally finished reading it (I listened to the audiobook which I also definitely recommend) and just sat there with tears in my eyes because it was over and Evelyn Hugo isn’t even real. It was just that good.

But there you have it, my top three reads of 2018 so far! Let me know what some of your favourite reads have been so far this year, and let me know if you’ve read and/or loved any of my top three!

Also, this is completely unrelated to this post, but I have a little announcement! I’ve actually started a Youtube channel and just posted my first video! If you’d like to subscribe or watch my vid (which I’d really appreciate), you can find me here!

Until next time,

  1. Aaaahhhh, everyone is giving Evelyn Hugo a 5 stars at the moment. I don’t have time to read it but maybe I’ll jump into the audiobook once the hype has died down. :3

  2. Dang!! 45 books already?! I feel so behind! I’m “on track” with my Goodreads Challenge but for some reason I still feel as though I’m drowning haha
I’m definitely going to have to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I’ve heard too many good things to ignore it!
